My Husband and I are Building a House!

Never in a million years would I have thought we would do it. My husband talked about building a house for quite some time before I began to take him seriously.

See, my husband is one of those super handy people. He can fix or build anything. I've seen him tackle handfuls of projects before, including car repairs, furniture design and building, you name it.

So my hesitation in the beginning wasn't stemming from his abilities. I was afraid of taking a risk.

Let me back up a bit. Flash back to April 2016. We were newly engaged and had been living with my in-laws for nearly a year now. We had been casually looking at houses, but we kept coming back to hating the idea of a 30 year mortgage on an overpriced property. This is when my husband started planting the bug in my ear. After debating and planning for a few months, we started working on the lot in July 2016

So when I say we are building a house, I mean we are physically building a house. We have hired a few tasks out, but every stud and nail has been put in place by us. If you have done the math you know we have not stayed on schedule with our timeline. We are about a year and a half into our build. At this point, we are painting. It is so exciting and amazing to look back where we started. It feels like we still have a long way to go, but  at the same time we are so close to moving in.
